REQUESTED GRANNY SQUARE TUTORIAL…

by izabela

some time ago I received request from one of my subscribers – Mary Lou, for a granny square with a big hole in the middle, so finally there is it

FLOWER IN A GRANNY SQUARE – pattern

to get best results, use DK yarn and crochet with a hook size 4 quite loosely…

begin with a sliding loop,

round 1 – ch4 (as your first tr and 1 ch), *tr in ring, ch1*  repeat from * to * 14 more times, join with a sl st to 3rd ch of ch4, fasten off

round 2 – join new color in any ch1 space, ch3, dc 3 together, ch3, *dc 4 together, ch3*, repeat from * to * 14 more times, join with sl st to the top ch of beginning ch3, fasten off

round 3 – join another color in any ch3 space, ch3, 3 dc, ch3, 4 dc in the same space as last one, *ch1, sc in the next ch3 space, ch3, sc in the next ch3 space, ch3, sc in the next ch3 space, ch1*, **4 dc in the next ch3 space, ch3, 4 dc in the same space, repeat from * to * once**, repeat from ** to ** two more times, join the round with a sl st, fasten off

round 4 – join another color in one of the ch3 spaces between two sets of 4 dc in one of the corners, ch3, 3 dc, ch3, 4 dc in the same space, *ch1, 4 dc in next ch3 space (skip ch1 space), ch1, 4 dc in next ch3 space, ch1 (skip ch1 space)*, **4 dc in next ch3 space, ch3, 4 dc in the same space, repeat from * to * once**, repeat from ** to ** two more times, join the round with a sl st, fasten off

round 5 – join the second color you used in the ch3 space between two sets of 4 dc (in the corner), ch3, 3 dc, ch3,** 4 dc in the same ch3 space, *4 dc in the next space* repeat from * to * three more times**, repeat from ** to ** three more times, but in last repeat make 4 dc in each space, only three times, join the round to the top ch of ch3 with a sl st, fasten off

weave in all loose end,
now you should have your lovely 6 inches granny square 🙂

that is it, soon I am going to try drawing diagrams for all patterns to make it easier to understand, as probably sometimes my writing might get a bit chaotic (please always let me know)

if you like other squares, I made them as they went but I can easily write patterns down, just let me know if you want them earlier, because it normally takes me some time to start…
